Privacy Policy
Last updated 25 October 2026
Tact is a dating text coach. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the Tact app and website. We built Tact to collect as little as possible: there are no accounts, and your chats and screenshots are never stored on our servers.
"Tact", "we" and "us" mean the independent developer who makes and runs Tact and is responsible for your information. You can reach us at support@thetactfulgentleman.com.
The short version
- No account, no name, no email, no phone number.
- Your screenshots and chats go to an AI service only after you agree, only to write your replies, and they aren't stored or used to train AI.
- Your past reads stay on your phone, and you can delete them at any time.
- Our server keeps a few usage counters, tied to a random app ID, so the free tier and fair use work.
- No ads, no tracking across apps, and we never sell your information.
What stays on your phone
- Your recent reads and replies (text only; screenshots are never saved)
- Your settings, such as who you're texting and what you're looking for
None of this is uploaded to an account, because there are no accounts. Swiping a chat left on the home screen and tapping Delete removes that chat. Settings → Delete all data, or deleting the app, removes everything.
What we process, and why
Your screenshots and text. When you ask for a read, openers or a profile review, and only after you agree on the in-app consent screen, the app sends the screenshots or text you picked over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to our server. Our server passes them to a third-party AI service, which writes the response and sends it back. Our server doesn't keep your screenshots, chats or replies. The AI service may hold a request for a short period to detect abuse, then deletes it, and its terms don't allow it to use your content to train its models. You can withdraw consent at any time in Settings, which stops anything being sent.
Profile reviews work the same way. If your profile screenshots include photos of you, they are used only to judge how the profile comes across. We don't use them to identify you, and we don't create face templates or any other biometric data.
A random app ID and usage counters. The app creates a random ID when it's first opened. It isn't linked to your name, email, phone number or Apple or Google account. Next to that ID our server keeps only counters, never content:
- how many free reads you've used, kept for up to 400 days so the free read can't be reset by reinstalling
- when you last ran a free profile review, kept for 7 days
- a running total of this week's usage on Pro, kept for 8 days, for fair use
- whether you have Pro, cached for up to 10 minutes
Your IP address. Our server sees your IP address with each request, as every app and website server does. We use it only for a daily limit against abuse: a request count tied to it is kept for about a day, then deleted. We don't use it to work out where you are.
Reports. If you report a response in the app, we keep the excerpt you reported, the reason you chose and any note you added for up to 90 days, so we can improve the coaching.
Purchases. Subscriptions are paid through Apple or Google. A subscription-management service receives the random app ID and the store's purchase receipts so the app knows whether you have Pro. We never see your card or payment details.
The website. The website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or tracking. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP address and pages requested, for security.
Who we share it with
We share information only with service providers that run parts of Tact for us, under contracts that let them use it only to provide their service:
- An AI service, which writes your replies from the screenshots or text you send
- A cloud hosting provider, which runs our server and website
- A subscription-management service, which checks your Pro status with Apple or Google
- Apple and Google, which handle payments under their own privacy policies
We don't sell your information, share it for advertising, or use third-party advertising or analytics tools. We may disclose information if the law requires it, but there is very little to disclose: we don't hold your chats.
Where it's processed
Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. When information leaves the UK or the European Economic Area, we rely on safeguards the law recognises, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
Legal basis (UK and EU users)
- Consent: sending your screenshots or text to the AI service. You give it on the consent screen and can withdraw it in Settings.
- Contract: providing the app, your free read and your subscription.
- Legitimate interests: usage counters, fair use, abuse limits and improving the coaching from reports. These keep Tact working and fair, and none of them uses your content.
The other person in your chat
Screenshots can contain another person's messages and details. Only upload what you're comfortable sharing, and crop out their photos, phone number and anything else that identifies them. We process this content only to produce your coaching, and we don't keep it.
Children
Tact isn't made for children. We don't knowingly process information about children under 13, or under the age at which your country lets you agree to this yourself, and the coach refuses to help with conversations that appear to involve minors. If you believe a child is using Tact, contact us.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, the UK GDPR or US state laws such as the CCPA), you can ask to access, correct or delete your information, object to or restrict how we use it, take a copy of it, or withdraw consent. Because we don't keep your content, there is usually little or nothing to access: your chats live only on your phone, and you can delete them yourself with Settings → Delete all data. The usage counters expire on their own as described above; to have them removed sooner, email support@thetactfulgentleman.com. We'll reply within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Security
Everything between the app and our server is encrypted in transit. Our server holds no content, and the counters it keeps don't identify you on their own. No system is perfectly secure, but collecting so little keeps the risk small.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll also tell you in the app before it applies.
